MELD is a useful tool in predicting the mortality from liver disease (and thus, how urgently an individual needs a liver transplant) in the next three months.
The MELD score is based on a patient’s serum Creatinine, Bilirubin and INR (CBI) !
The score ranges in value from 6 (lowest priority) to 40 (highest priority).
MELD-Na score (an extension of MELD) includes serum sodium - this may help to better rank candidates.
